Etiquette Guide for ShoujoToys.com
General
Etiquette Expectations of the users
- One membership per person.
- To ensure that each user only has one account we require a valid
real name. We don't give your name out, only a few staff members can
see it. We have thousands of users, but we look at every name looking
for fakes. If you are silly enough to try an obviously fake name (Buffy
Summers, Raye Hino...) we will lock your account until you tell us your
real name. Please ask your parents first, if you are under 13.
- Every now and then we have problems with the system. We've lost passwords
in the past and other such incidents. In these cases the only thing
that saved the users was a valid, working e-mail address we can send
mail to at any time. If we try to send you e-mail and it bounces we'll
delete your membership instantly, no questions asked.
- AOL users must verify that their AOL account allows email from the
domains ShoujoToys.com & Sailormoon.org. If email from ShoujoToys.com
or Sailormoon.org is blocked and returned to our server, the user's
ShoujoToys.com account can (and probably will) be marked for deletion.
- HR 3783/COPPA, the Children's online privacy protection act: All
US Citizens under the age of 13 need to have parental permission before
using the site. Since we are not-for-profit the law doesn't apply to
us, but we act like it does, just in case. Please get parental permission;
if you don't, we'll remove your membership.
Forums
- The topics in this site are not chats, the are places to communicate
with other members. Sometimes days or weeks pass between people's ability
to return to read the posts in the topics. Since each topic has a limited
number of posts it will display it is unacceptable to post more than
one time in a row. You can easily edit or delete your posts so there
is no excuse for wasting the limited space in each topic with many small
posts. It comes down to respect, if you respect the ability of others
to post then you won't needlessly scroll their posts off the topic.
- Cross-posting the same message in multiple topics is considered to
be rude. Cross-posting is when a user posts identical (or almost identical)
posts in multiple topics. Rampant cross-posting causes unnecessary scrolling
in the topics (See the above bullet). Cross-posting is usually unnecessary
since most ShoujoToys.com sanctioned topics are open to all active members
and therefore can be read by all active members who are interested.
There are cases where cross-posting is allowed; however, these situations
are few and far between. It's always best to consider the feeling of
other members before posting your message in multiple areas on the site.
If a user continuously cross-posts, it could be considered to be a disruption
in the community.
- Since the topics each have a limited number of posts it's generally
seen as a bad thing to post short, one line messages. One line messages
encourage topics to degrade into chat and are usually meaningless. If
it's a meaningless post you can use a chat site, or the instant message
system (AIM/ICQ/Yahoo! IM) of your choice. We do not host chats because
we don't feel that it is a necessary service to provide when there are
so many other free systems out there.
- Signatures are the bits of text and images at the bottom of users'
posts
- Signatures are supposed to help you distinguish yourself from
other users by making your posts easy to recognize. However, due
to abuse we've had to drastically limit the manner in which signatures
can be used. Each signature supports only one image, and that image
must be small.
- If you are a candidate for the senate, or supporting someone
else in their run for the senate, you may not put a campaign advertisement
in your signature. A special topic will exist for campaign ads.
We don't want to see them in every topic.
- User created topics, if they exist, are not exempt from the Terms
of Service and etiquette guidelines.
User-Submitted Images
- Only registered members of this site can submit images to the "user-submitted
images" galleries.
- Members may only submit his/her own works. Plagiarism is always completely
unacceptable, just like in Real Life.
